Forest Park Riding & Equitation School has been run by Grant and Heather Hughes for over 35 years. Forest Park has three sections– Agistment, Riding School and Performance Horses. We have over 50 full time & part time employees working for us, delivering Canberra the highest quality equine services available.
We have many agistees with their private horses who use our facilities at Forest Park. Most of these people are given regular lessons by our instructors.
The Riding School caters for both riders who own their own horse, and also for those who do not currently own their own horse. We have 30 riding school horses on which our instructors give lessons to our clients. We have many different lessons and rides that cater for all riding abilities and schedules. We run private lessons, group lessons and trail rides for riders of all levels of experience and ages. Lessons and trail rides run all year, every day, with the exception of Christmas day.
Our performance horses consist of client’s horses that we break in and train for them, and our show horses which we compete. At some of the biggest shows in the country, we find there are always horses with the ‘Emmaville’ prefix in the winner’s lineup. These horses we have either bred ourselves, or trained to then sell on to clients. These horses were competing in both the smaller/junior classes, and larger/senior classes. Our clients (from beginner to advanced Grand Prix level) are also competing successfully at shows around the country. We pride ourselves in training horses to a standard, and matching horses to riders which will go on to succeed.
Our beloved school horses are a wonderful mix of personalities, colours and temperaments to suit all standards of riders. Click here to read more about our horses
Our Performance Horses have been bred or purchased by Grant & Heather Hughes, and have been educated to competition standard, competing in Showjumping, Dressage and Hacking around the country. Click here to learn more about Emmaville Performance Horses
We have a dedicated and experienced group of instructors here at Forest Park. Qualifications include Tafe, agricultural college, Equestrian Federation of Australia N.C.A.S and Bachelor of Education. Some of our instructors also successfully compete in both dressage and showjumping competitions on a frequent basis. In order to provide you the best service possible, all of our instructors undergo regular in house training, including safety aspects of horsemanship.
